Questions About Hospice and MHH

What is Hospice?

Hospice is more than you may think it is. Hospice is a holistic approach to care providing physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and psychological support. The goal of hospice is to enhance the quality of life of those living with a life-limiting illness and their families.

What support can Matthews House Hospice provide?

Matthews House offers both residential and community hospice programs and services.
We have programs and services for:

Individuals living with a life-limiting illness
Individuals who are nearing the end of life
Caregivers, family, and friends
Individuals who are grieving

What areas does Matthews House Hospice service?

We primarily serve South Simcoe County, including New Tecumseth, Adjala-Tosorontio, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Essa, Innisfil and surrounding communities.

Do I need a referral?

For our residential hospice services, you do not need a referral to start the process. Contact us to speak with our Intake Coordinator. Eventually, we will need a referral and your medical information from your healthcare provider, however, we can assist you with getting this information.

For most of our community programs, you do not need a referral. Contact us and we will connect you with our Care Coordinators or Counsellors who will discuss next steps.

Is there a cost?

All of our residential services and the majority of our community programs are offered at no cost.
A small handful of our programs and services have a minimal cost to ensure we are able to offer them:

Memory Care & Dementia Day Program
Extended periods of Grief & Bereavement Counselling
Additional PSW support hours (outside of the hours included in the Hospice@Home program)

Donation Questions

Where does my donation go?

When you make a donation to Matthews House Hospice Foundation, you can be assured your donation is making a direct impact in our community. All funds raised support Matthews House Hospice residential and community hospice programs and services.

Do you receive Government funding?

We appreciate the Government of Ontario’s support of our programs and services and their increasing recognition of the need for local hospice care. However, Matthews House must raise over $2 million annually through our events and the generosity of our community to continue to serve our community.

Will I get a tax receipt and when?

Donations over $25 will be eligible for a tax receipt. Donations made online will receive their tax receipt immediately via email. All other donations will receive their tax receipt within 2-4 weeks.

Can I get a report of donations made in memory of my loved one?

A tribute report with donations made in memory of your loved one will be mailed to the next of kin at the end of each month. You can request one anytime by contacting our reception team.
