Matthews House Hospice is a non-profit charity, providing hospice and community services to the people of New Tecumseth and surrounding areas supporting living life fully and dying with dignity. We walk together with families and community members through the journey of illness and grief offering a variety of day programs, counselling, and palliative care. We believe everyone should have access to the right palliative and bereavement care when and where they need it.
We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic candidate to join our team. This position is a full-time on-site role reporting to the CEO, the Human Resources (HR) Generalist is responsible for administrative and recruitment/selection functions at MHH.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- HR Administration
- Support managers, employees and volunteers as the first point of contact on the interpretation of human resources policies, compensation and benefit programs
- Administer employee payroll and benefit programs
- Maintain HR information and related record systems (electronic databases and paper files) for the staff, volunteers and students
- Collaborate with the leadership team to implement and coordinate government programs and employment related subsidies and grants such as Canada Summer Jobs, Personal Support Worker Return of Service, etc
- Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement HR including metrics and collect the statistics for the monthly reporting
- Collaborate with Volunteer Coordinator with the collection of volunteer metrics and monthly reporting to show status of program
- Conduct exit interviews with resigning employees and volunteers
- Support leadership team as required
- Assist in the implementation and evaluation of staff and volunteer annual surveys
- Assist with the monitoring and administration of salary increases as required
- Recruitment and Selection
- Prepare and post job advertisements
- Pre-screen and evaluate applications for the hiring manager
- Coordinate and participate in the selection process with hiring manager
- Perform reference checks
- Prepare job offers
- Evaluate, revise as required and administer onboarding process for employees and volunteers
- Deliver and oversee core training to staff and volunteers as required
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs that will increase satisfaction and assist in the retention of staff and volunteers
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Active member of the Health and Safety Committee of the hospice
- Act as backup for payroll issues
- Assist with the management of union issues as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of post-secondary education in Human Resources studies and/or five years HR Generalist experience, preferably in a hospice or other not for profit organization
- C.H.R.P. or C.H.R.L. Designation
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work in person on site (not a virtual position)
- Cleared Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector police check
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to office and other sites as required
- High professional standards, specifically regarding confidentiality, ethics and documentation (essential)
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team with a commitment to a continuous quality improvement culture
- Experience in a unionized environment
- Experience in hospice palliative care and/or not for profit organizations.
- Knowledge of Alayacare, Citation Canada, Microsoft and Microsoft 365 and Outlook are assets.
- Knowledge of WSIB compliance and requirements is an asset.
- Knowledge and experience with ADP Payroll system an asset
